Government

The word ‘democracy’ has a Greek origin and translates to ‘the people rule’. And ‘ruling’ implies taking decisions that perhaps not all ‘the people’ agree with.

Finding collection points for household rubbish, designating locations for windmills, forcing farmers to reduce their number of cattle. Controversial topics. Topics that may lead to criticism, protest and illegal actions. As a government, how can you lend an ear – sincerely – to these voices? Voices often fueled by populistic beliefs and social media communities. When you are in any form of government, dare you to speak openly with the people you represent and serve? Dare you not to hide behind bureaucracy and political scheming? In other words: how to you win (back) the trust of the people? This is just one of the challenges Bourne loves to get involved in and find solutions for.
