Rotterdam and the Youth Olympic Games

For children aged 14-18 the Youth Olympic Games, YOG, are the podium to show their sportive skills. There are medals to be won in 27 disciplines. The City of Rotterdam is perfectly equipped to host this event. The city is dynamic, well designed and very sportsminded. A city that will seize an opportunity when it presents itself. So when the opportunity to host the YOG presented itself …

The City of Rotterdam made a bid to host the 2023 YOG. The city council considered this an opportunity for both Rotterdam and the Netherlands. Major Aboutaleb: ‘Rotterdam is ready to host the 2023 YOG. I know we can do it. And I know we need it to reach the next level in building a healthy society in Rotterdam and to inspire others to do so as well.’

The Dutch sports ministery, the National Olympic Committee and other institutions all backed Rotterdam’s candidacy. Bourne put together a visual language to show and promote the bid on various channels.

The International Olympic Committee decided differently. Unfortunately. From amongst the candiates, Senegal in Africa was selected to host the (postponed) event in 2026.
